The Reality of "Free" .si Domains
Let's be direct: Completely free .si domains do not exist. The Slovenian registry (ARNES) charges a wholesale fee to registrars for every domain registered or renewed. Registrars cannot give away domains for free without losing money.
Beware of Scams and Subdomains
If you see a website offering a "free .si domain", proceed with extreme caution. In most cases, they are offering a subdomain (e.g., yourname.theirwebsite.si), not a true top-level domain that you own and control.
How to get a .si domain essentially "Free"
While the domain itself isn't free, many web hosting companies offer a "Free Domain for 1 Year" promotion when you purchase a web hosting package. If you already need hosting for your website, buying a package from a Slovenian host (like Domenca, Neo-Serv, or Hostko) will often include the first year of your .si domain registration at no extra cost.
Finding the Cheapest .si Domains
If you don't need hosting and just want to secure the domain cheaply, you should compare registrar pricing. Registration fees for .si domains are generally very affordable, often ranging between €10 to €15 per year. Look out for Black Friday sales or first-year promotional discounts at major registrars.
